Christmas list for island girls

Christmas looms closer and our shopping reaches a level of harried craziness.  Just shop shop shop to check those names off your Christmas list.... done. done. done. This Christmas I was trying to create a LIST for us island girls.... something that you can just forward to your love ones to say - "well I love all of them, or I love no.2 and 3" subtle hints to ensure you get things you like.   AND if you are not sure you will get anything you like, what I normally do is, buy a few things for myself and wrap them up.  The card reads "Dear Kim, thanks so much for everything you do.  Love Kim" and one gift a...

Caribbean island influences

At the age of 29 I had quit my high paying, high stress, glamorous job as Head Designer at Billabong South Africa to go sailing to the Caribbean.  Here I am in the messy chaotic design room at Billabong SA. My boyfriend (now my husband) and I had done navigation courses, and sailing courses with a tough old merchant sailor in South Africa.  He was in the business of training men to be commercial fishermen on the South African Coast.  I was only the 2nd woman to do his courses, and he was not very forgiving…. well the South African coastline (known as the Cape of Storms) is not very forgiving either. Meet Lauren, my Wonder Woman

Lauren and her husband Steve had sailed extensively through the Caribbean islands in their early married life.  In fact they bought their first newborn baby Carley home to the boat in St.Lucia when she was only 2 weeks old.  Here is a photo of Lauren passing their tiny baby up to Steve on the bow of their boat.... can you even imagine what she said to him as she handed over such precious cargo? Lauren has so many amazing sailing photos of her young family, its hard to decide which ones to share, but I do love this one of her with baby Carley and a lobster that is bigger than the baby. I will never forget my first phone call...

Now I wanted to give you a TOUR of this tunic, and explain to you why this style is SO good to wear on your vacation.  The first and most important thing to mention is the fabric.... it...

Eating out in the Caribbean

Eating out in the Caribbean can be an experience not unlike eating out in the US, but only if you stick to the hotel or cruise ship buffet bar.  For me the highlight of eating out in the Caribbean is more about the setting, the view,  and the smiles. Imagine sitting on the beach, with an umbrella overhead, your toes in the sand and the occasional wave washing over your feet and cooling your ankles.  The kids are playing happily in the water nearby, leaving you and your partner the peace to actually hold a conversation.  As a mother of 3 young children, peace features strongly on my wish list. You watch the sun set over the sea, as you sip...
